YouTube is Now Restricting Users with Ad-blocker

YouTube has imposed a notification warnings to people using ad-blocker to restrict advertisement on the streaming platform. The service say blocking ads violate its terms of service and people that want to stream without advertisement should opt-in for it premium service.

This limitations have been imposed worldwide, preventing streamers from viewing contents while on Ad-blocker. So, don’t be surprise if you’re restricted from viewing more videos unless you deactivate Ad-blocker.

YouTube started the Ad-blocker limitation experiment in June 2023 where it notified it users about the restriction. The platform said that its would block users watching with ad-blocker after streaming three (3) contents if the ad-blocker isn’t disable.

However, according to YouTube’s conversations with The Verge, a global efforts have been put in place to totally block users using ad blockers; it’s either they opt-in for YouTube Premium or they allow ads.

According to Global Media Insight, YouTube has more than 2.70 billion monthly active users as of 2023. YouTube Premium and Music together have more than 80 million subscribers in the world. More than ¼ of the world’s population uses YouTube every month. Furthermore, the platform and it creators generate revenue through advertisement, so disabling ads or using ad-block will certainly devaluate their revenue market.

In a nutshell, using ad-blocker violate YouTube terms and conditions and you’ll be penalized with video-watching restriction. Notwithstanding, it would be a good option to subscribe to YouTube Premium or enable ads to continue using the streaming platform. However, remember that YouTube is the second most-used search engine in the world.
